Daler Rowney Self Adhesive Board |
What is Adhesive board and why use it?
Adhesive board is the only alternative available to dry-mounting - A professional process where an item is bonded onto a thicker substarate to ensure the item will remain perfectly flat and warp free for ever.
There are a lot of items which benefit from Adhesive board, posters which are printed on very thin paper are a good example, as the paper is thin , when the poster is put into a frame the weight of the whole poster is on the bottom so you get a warped effect, if the poster is adhered correctly to adhesive board this will not happen.
Will it damage my artwork?
The artwork once applied may be damaged on removal from any Adhesive board. The boards are not of archival quality and therefore the board is not suitable for mounting expensive / irreplaceable items.
How long can the item be left on adhesive board before you cannot lift it off?
This Depends on the substrate being adhered. Perhaps an hour after application, however if the substrate has a glossy or polythene finish this may be damaged on removal so a strip of all substrates should be tested prior to use.
Firstly a test strip should be tried to establish if the correct pressure is being used for the application. Peel back approximately 1" ( 25mm ) of the release paper across the shortest side, the item to be mounted should be laid carefully on the uncovered adhesive surface and then gently flattened onto the board using a roller or finger pressure to remove air bubbles, repeat this procedure until the item being mounted is completely adhered.
However should there be any air bubbles care is advised if using a roller in these area's as they can produce creases if not applied correctly.
