Viewbug

If you are looking to enter a large number of competitions you should take a look at Viewbug.com. Viewbug is an online community made up of a huge number of photography competitions run by both big and small brands. With the number of competitions running, in a range of different categories there is plenty of opportunity to submit your work. What’s more, Viewbug has a free membership option which gives you access to entering over 40 competitions a year. Alternatively their Premium and Pro options come at a cost but with some great benefits such as custom watermarks and selling your photos. Even if you aren’t looking to enter any of the competitions, Viewbug is a great opportunity to take a look at other peoples stunning work.

The Big Picture

With over 270 rounds having already run, The Telegraph’s ‘The Big Picture’ competition is a weekly photography competition with a chance to win a £300 Camera. Entry to this competition is easy; simply send in your best holiday photos for a chance to win.  So why not dig out your holiday snaps and take a look at the previous competition winners to see if you have what it takes to win.

Sony World Photo

Choose between 10 categories from Architecture to Split Second to enter the Sony World Photo open competition which welcomes both amateurs and professionals. Alternatively, professionals can enter the Professional competition and submit collections of work in one of the categories. For those younger photographers, Sony also host a Youth Award, as part of the World Photo Competitions, this contest is open to anyone under the age of 19 on the 6th January 2014.

For all three Sony World Photo competitions the closing date is towards the beginning of January so you will need to be quick to get your entries in for this year!

Nikon Photography Contest

One of the longest running photography competitions; Nikon Photography Contest has been welcoming entries from both amateurs and professionals from across the world for the past 44 years.  With an ethos of ‘to share important stories and influence the way people think through photography’ this competition is a great place to showcase your prized pieces.  Now finished for this year with 22,752 entries, this contest is extremely competitive so you need to have an attention grabbing piece.  The competition should be beginning again this December so keep your eyes open!

With all these competitions running currently or restarting in the coming New Year, there are plenty of opportunities to gain publicity for your photography. Remember it isn’t all about the winning!  Photography competitions are a great way for gaining confidence and skills in photography to promote development, as well as look at the other beautiful pieces out there.
