As specialist picture-framers, we\u2019re really interested in photography and we love receiving new entries every month.<\/p>\n<p>We thought it would be nice to run a \u2018Photographer of the Month\u2019 feature. Each month, we\u2019ll shine a spotlight on one amateur or professional photographer and the work they do.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Kavanagh is our very first \u2018Photographer of the Month\u2019.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>January\u2019s Photographer of the Month<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Tim won our \u2018Fun in the Sun\u2019 Facebook photography competition in June 2013 with his photo of snorkelling taken in Greece.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pictureframesexpress.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Tim-Kavanagh-photo1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3214\" title=\"Tim Kavanagh photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pictureframesexpress.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Tim-Kavanagh-photo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"288\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He won \u00a3200 of picture frames of his choice from Picture Frames Express. We thought we\u2019d catch up with Tim to see if he\u2019s kept up his interest in photography since the summer.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why Tim got into photography<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Tim became interested in photography a couple of years ago when the medical condition Narcolepsy left him unable to work. Determined to do something positive with his time, he picked up a camera. Living in Lampeter, Wales and unable to drive due to his condition, he found he was limited as to what he could do and where he could go. There was no photography club in his home town, so he and some friends loosely formed a group around their interest in photography where they lived.<\/p>\n<p>The Lampeter Photography Group is still going strong and they enjoy taking pictures and putting on exhibitions. They challenge themselves with topics too, allowing them to specialise on a subject or theme. Tim says the group\u2019s pretty informal and anyone is free to join.<\/p>\n<p>The photo at the top of the page is of one of Tim\u2019s recent exhibitions and we\u2019re pleased to say that most of his pictures are in our frames.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tim\u2019s photo: \u2018Waterfall\u2019.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pictureframesexpress.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2011-03-19-waterfall-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3215\" title=\"Waterfall \" src=\"https:\/\/www.pictureframesexpress.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2011-03-19-waterfall-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"346\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong style=\"font-size: 1.5em;\">What he enjoys about Photography<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tim says \u201cEach picture is a new experience and you can learn a little whenever you pick up a camera\u201d. He\u2019s surrounded by nature in his rural hometown, so he enjoys taking photos of nature, landscapes and trees. However, when his group of photography friends choose topics, he says; \u201cit can push you into doing things you might not otherwise have tried\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tim uses a Pentax digital SLR, although his winning photo in June was taken with a waterproof, compact camera, which was also a Pentax.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Plans for the future<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As well as more exhibitions, Tim is starting to build up a significant portfolio, and is hoping to bring together some of his photos and experiences into an online gallery and blog website, if time ever allows.<\/p>\n<p>As well as photography, Tim spends his time as a volunteer trustee and director for Narcolepsy UK.
